to help students familiar with the application process for overseas master’s and doctoral programs and understand the application methods for the china scholarship council (csc) scholarship, on the afternoon of november 10th, qmes held a study abroad experience sharing session titled “qmul and csc scholarship application workshop” in the lecture hall of east teaching building block a. this sharing session invited 2017 class outstanding alumni of the school. sun yutong, a current ph.d. student at qmul, shared her overseas study experiences and application insights. she also answered questions and interaction with the students.
sun yutong introduced the differences between personal and csc channel applications for doctoral degrees to the students. she combined her own experience to explain the application process and document preparation for the csc scholarship. miss sun encouraged students to actively apply to prestigious overseas universities and strive for direct ph.d. admission and scholarship offers. regarding her decision to continue her ph.d. studies at qmul under the guidance of professor james busfield, the vice dean of the school of engineering and materials science, sun yutong expressed its significant meaning to her.
furthermore, she explained to the students the timeline for applying to overseas master’s and doctoral programs in detail. she focused on topics such as selecting universities, contacting supervisors, atas clearance, and visa applications.
after the sharing session, sun yutong engaged in interactive discussions with the students present. she addressed their questions one by one and encouraged everyone to set long-term goals and actively broaden their international perspectives. the attending students expressed that they greatly benefited from the session.
through this sharing session, students gained a deep understanding of the experience of applying for overseas master’s and doctoral programs, as well as scholarships. the session fully demonstrated the guiding and exemplary role of outstanding alumnus, helping their fellow students in career planning and cultivating global competency. qmes will continue to strengthen policy guidance, focus on broadening students’ international perspectives, and support more students in venturing beyond national borders and stepping into the world. together, they will contribute to the overseas chapter of the “npu phenomenon.”

profile of sun yutong
sun yutong, born in xi’an, shaanxi, is a 2017 graduate majoring in polymer materials science and engineering at qmes, npu. she was awarded the first-class scholarship of “outstanding student of the university” for the academic year of 2018-2019 and 2019-2020. in 2021, she is going to study for a master’s degree in advanced materials science and engineering at imperial college london. in 2023, she enrolled in a ph.d. program at qmul. her doctoral project, “wearable flexible sensors,” received scholarships from the csc and the european space agency.
