  1. which programmes are available through the partnership application route?all pgt programmes from queen mary are available to you through this route. please check the entry requirements from the programme website, since some of the programme require certain background knowledge and therefore you may not be eligible to apply. all masters courses from the school of engineering and material science (sems) are available to you as an qmes engineering or science graduate. please check the entry requirement from any other school. find the course here:

  2. how do i apply for an msc? the process is simple, and it will take you a short time to complete. fill the application form by clicking on the ‘apply now’ button. this will take you to the application page. the link can be found on:

  3. when will the application system open? the system will be open from the 6thof october 2020 until the 15thof april 2021. you can apply anytime during that period.

  4. is there an application fee? no. qmul does not charge a fee for applications.

  5. how long will i wait for to hear if i was accepted into an msc programme? the process usually takes 4 weeks from the time of application. however, it may take longer during busy times, for example during autumn. the admissions team will be processing applications for students that want to join qmul in january before they process applications for students that will join in sept 2021. you may have to wait a bit longer if you apply during the autumn.

  6. what documents are required to complete an msc application? because you are already a qmul student, we only require a digital or scanned copy of your passport during the application process. we have access to your transcripts and records; therefore, we will check this directly. you do not need to submit any other document. in some cases, we may need more information from you, for example, your npu transcript. in that case, we will contact you directly and request any additional documents that may be needed to process your application.

  7. do i need to write a research proposal during the msc application process? no. a research proposal is not required to apply for an msc in qmul.

  8. do i need to submit my cv and npu transcript when applying for an msc in qmul? no. these documents are not required. we only need your passport at this stage.

  9. do i need to demonstrate any language requirements to be eligible for an msc? no! you will be graduating from qmes with a degree in english, which automatically qualify your language skills, therefore, you do not need to demonstrate that you are proficient in english with ielts, toefl, gre or similar exam qualifications.

  10. can i apply to more than one programme in qmul? yes you can! however, you can only apply to one programme at a time. which means that you fill in the application to one programme and if you change your mind or do not get a place, you can then fill in the application to a different programme.

  11. what happens if i am rejected for the msc programme i want to take? we will check your application and the reasons why you do not qualify. for example, you may want to do an msc in medicine, but you have a background in engineering. you can imagine that you will not be directly eligible to take an msc in medicine. if this happens, we will work with you to help you transfer to another programme and try to smooth the application process. when this is not possible, we will help you to re-apply to a different programme.

  12. can i apply for a phd without completing an msc? yes you can! in the uk educational system, you can enrol for a phd straight after you obtain a beng qualification. the expectation is that any top student that achieved a 1stclass degree (70 or higher marks in qmul system) or a very high 2:1 degree classification (67 or higher in qmul system) can apply for a phd. it is highly recommended that you contact potential supervisors by email if you would like to apply through this route. if you would like to apply for a phd, please see additional help in the phd route pages (link to phd route pages)

  13. are there any discounts or scholarships that may benefit me? yes! as you are a qmul student, you are automatically eligible for a 10% discount on the msc fees. if your degree classification is a 1stclass (70 or higher on the qmul marking scale) you will receive a £5,000 partnership excellence scholarship. however, you will not be offered the 10% discount if you are granted a scholarship. you can only receive one benefit.

  14. is it financially better to take the 10% discount or the partnership excellence scholarship? it is always better to get a scholarship if you qualify for it. not only because there may be a financial gain, but more importantly, the scholarship is a recognition of your academic achievement and it will look great in your cv when you apply for a job after the msc. it is always more prestigious to tell your prospective employers that you were awarded a scholarship to study an msc; it demonstrates how good you are!

  15. how much will it cost to do an msc in qmul? the fees vary between programmes but typically it will be between £18,000 and £25,000. you will additionally need around £1,300 per month to cover the cost of living. there is more information you can explore in the money pages for international students

  16. i sent my application for an msc and after 4 weeks i have not received an answer, what do i do? you may want to check your spam folder in case the email was sent there by your internet provider. if you checked it and you still haven’t got any communication, you can contact the international partnership team and ask them if they could help; they can assist you with chasing your application in the system. the contact is dr miao lin (). please send all communication in english.

  17. i have sent an email to the international partnership team and i haven’t got a response, who do i contact? you can send a message via the wechat group chat. if you have not joined yet, please contact the qmes office, they will let you scan the group and you can ask once you are a member.

  7. is there a closing date for receipt of applications? there is no fixed date for phd applications. however, the process may take time from when you contact a potential supervisor to the point that you get an offer. you will require a formal offer to apply for a scholarship. if you intend to apply for a scholarship, you will need to submit an application as early as possible.

  8. are there any discounts for phd fees? yes, the schools that are part of science and engineering or humanities and social sciences offer a 10% discount on phd fees. the discount does not apply to schools belonging to medicine and dentistry. therefore, you may get a discount if you are interested in an msc in biomaterials but not if you would like to enrol in an msc in dental materials. check in which school the msc programme is located before you make an application.
